About PaperHammer

PaperHammer is built by Sebastian Nordstrom, an indie maker focused on tools for the moments where people are forced to write something important under pressure: with money on the line, a deadline looming, and a blank page in front of them.

Why this exists

Independent contractors get stiffed all the time. The work is done, the invoice is sent, and then the calls stop being returned. Writing a real demand letter is the step that actually shifts the balance — it shows the client you are organized, you have documented the job, and you are prepared to escalate. Most contractors never write one, because the tone is hard to get right, the legal references have to be accurate, and the deadlines have to be realistic.

PaperHammer takes a short form about the job and the invoice, then drafts three escalating versions of the letter — polite, firm, final demand — referencing the small-claims-court limit for your state. The PDF carries your name, not ours. You send it to the client like any letter you would have written yourself, just faster and tighter.

What PaperHammer is not

PaperHammer is a document preparation service, not a law firm. The documents we generate are templates personalized to your situation. For disputes involving significant amounts, mechanic's lien filings, or anything that looks like litigation, consult a licensed attorney in your state.

About the editorial

Every guide on the PaperHammer blog is written or directly edited by Sebastian. Practical advice on getting paid on time, late fees, small claims court, and what to do when a client goes silent.
